We Are Ready for a COMMENDED School Year!!!

Welcome back students from a much needed winter break!  It is great that everyone returned to school renewed, refreshed, and energized to learn many innovative and outstanding lessons.  The teachers are ready, willing, and able to make this year an outstanding one.  We have many fun and educational things planned for the remainder of the school year.  So, boys and girls continue to read our informative blogs to better help you navigate through the school year.  Parents, we encourage you to read our blogs as well, so that you too can stay informed of day to day activities.   

Reading Corner

Book of the Month                 The Great Fire by Jim Murphy         

Dear Students,

We are going on a journey back in time to The Great Fire of 1871.  This was one of the most massive disasters in American history.  The burgeoning city of Chicago was transformed overnight into a fiery wasteland.  This book will help us explore how at a time of extreme sorrow the people of Chicago found the tenacity and strength to rebuild their city.

            Students, you are expected to check out this book from a library near you and read it thoroughly.  There are seven riveting chapters in this book and you are required to have read the first three chapters by January 14, 2011, and then the remaining four chapters by January 28, 2011.    You will have two quizzes pertaining to this book and then a major examination.  Also, you will be responsible for turning in a comprehensive book report on The Great Fire which is due January 31, 2011.  Don’t forget to use notecards while you are reading this book to write down important information from the book.  We will be discussing in more detail how your notecards should be written.   Students should be prepared to discuss the assigned chapters in class.
